Fished Lake Tahoe out of Cave Rock, NV with the kayak on 2/17/24. Launched about 6am. Ended up with a skunk!
WEATHER
Overcast, temps in the high 20s, calm in the morning then windy by 1pm.
WATER
42 degrees & clear. Minimum depth of visibility was 20ft.
WHAT WORKED
Nothing for 2 of us. One buddy caught the lone fish of the day - a nice Brown Trout - on a silver/black jointed Rapala Scatterrap, similar to the size of a J-7. He caught it just south of the boat ramp in 20ft of water at 1.8mph topline, 120ft of line out.
WHAT DIDN’T WORK
Flicker Shad 4 silver/black. No hits.
Trolling a Kana Fishing chatter blade with a color shifting Kana Seeker Minnow.
Trolled a Kana Fishing Crawler on a slow death hook behind a small FHS dodger. No hits.
Speedy shiners in Watermelon, Silver/Blue, Red/Gold. No hits.
Dynamic HD minnow plug in Rainbow Trout. No hits.
Trout Hound minnow plug in Gold/Black/Silver flake. No hits.
SUMMARY
The Cave Rock area is simply not fishing well from kayak or shore. We’ve fished it hard the last couple weeks and have seen little to no action. Didn’t mark many (ie less than 5) fish on the fishfinder, even the usually stagnant Mackinaw Trout in deep water were gone. I suspect the cold weather, stormy conditions, and water temps below ideal temps for trout have either moved the fish into deeper water or another part of the lake. Speaking with locals, even the minnow bait traps have been coming up slim. Recommend waiting until the weather stabilizes and/or warms up a bit. The bite should be hot again whenever this happens. I’m done fishing for Cave Rock for at least a few weeks.
Headed to Topaz Lake tomorrow. Hoping for better luck.

No video. Nothing worth showing. Most exciting thing was my line getting wrapped in the propeller of my Old Town Autopilot 120.
